Grapes and Humble Pie

So Western travels all that way (to Laval) and fails even to deliver a message.

Actually, it did. It's: 'we're still not good enough'.

27-0 Groulx's.

Same kind of thing happened last fall and Laval ended up winning the title...again. But hey, Western also made it to Hamilton. Question now is, can the Mustangs make it back to Laval? And after this weekend's spanking, do they want to?

Of course, it's all just a workout...and a lesson, one the Stangs should aspire to be dishing out next time.

FYI - My interview with Don Cherry airs on 'A' News at 6, Tuesday, September 1st. We're dishing out samplers Monday at 11 then all morning long Snoozeday. Grapes attended the finale of the EuroCan Cup.

  1. The loss to Laval illustrates the divide that exists between teams from the OUA and those in Canada West and Quebec/Eastern Canada. Norm, you should do a piece, either for this blog or A London, that explores the differences in the playing fields of CIS sport, football in particular. I have always felt that the OUA has ignored the impact that sport, football in particular, can play in generating alumni donations and support. The impact of sport as a collecive rallying point seems to be ignored, or at least not fully explored, by most of Ontario's universities. Institutions with historic sport legacies seem to be missing the boat from my perspective. I could see you running a three or four part series, on A's 6:00 news, that explores the unlevel playing field; the scholarship boogieman; Ontario athletes leaving this province to compete; alumni interest and development; and possibly comparisons to division 2 schools in the NCAA. It would be a juicy little story, that most are unaware of, while profiling Western and amatuer sport to the London community.

  2. Great idea.. on a real issue. Western could postition itself as the front-runner in Ontario to compete with the Laval's of the world and those down South. Depends on how committed school brass is? OUA as a whole? It's surely something I've always been interested in finding out. Lemme snoop around bit. Thanks for reading, listening, watching.
