Blown away

I really thought the Goldenhawks would show up on this fine Saturday in London. Maybe they're not as good as many of us gave them credit for being? Maybe Western's too good? Maybe it's all a set up?

30-7 Stangs, improving to 2-and-0 on the OUA football season. As I mentioned on Saturday's edition on "The Hook", it's just another step forward for this group. A step upwards to where Western thinks it can reign come November. Michael Faulds, 315 yards passing? He doesn't get enough credit for his arm. He's averaging 300-plus yards tossing over his first two and is on pace for over 2000 for the season. Me thinks he'll need a yardage title, perhaps the all-time record too, to pull down the next Hec. Anyway, this is football. There aren't many games to work with, so there's little time to waste for Mike and the Stangs. For the most part they've made the most of it...and geez, against a pair of what were originally considered tough opponents. Now onto some beatable foes...like Bob Bellacicco's Lancers of Windsor/Detroit. Is this where the surprise kicks in? Stay tuned.

Jim McKellar's pretty excited about the OHL season to come. The Knights' assistant GM hinted as much during Saturday's show. He wants us to watch out for players like Jared Knight. The young American will soon be draft eligible and wants to improve upon a 15 goal freshman year. And the beneficiaries of Knight taking his game to another level? The team, and of course, the good Jr. hockey fans of London. Should be fun finishing 2nd in the Conference again.

And Ian Clarke isn't so sure TFC makes the playoffs in 2009. The squad is too inconsisent, lacking impact and explosion. But all isn't lost. Ian, who runs http://rednationonline.ca/ thinks the addition of Canadian International, Julian De Guzman will definitely help the club. If not this season, 2010.

BTW.. Ian is the outright all-time appearance leader on "The Hook with Norman James". Make it a big 3 call-in sessions with the die-hard TFC/Liverpool supporter. Congrats, Ian. I know you'll be drinking to that tonight.

And Dany Heatley can go **** himself. Congrats, cheater! You got your wish. How many goals 'til you're holding the Sharks ransom? Oh and congrats, Ottawa. You're better off without his BS, his ego, his 40 plus goals per.... or not.

So that's 10 weeks, 16 shows...

  1. A very impressive win by the Mustangs. I thought Laurier was a bit overrated coming into this week, especially with Thompson under centre, but I wasn't expecting a 30-7 beatdown. Things are looking very good for UWO football, especially if Brannagan's out for a few weeks.

  2. Minus Queen's, the Hawks and Gee-Gee's are/were expected to contend with Western. Not to say this is a foregone conclusion, but the Stangs are going to have to stay motivated this fall. And healthy. Eyes on the big prize, man.
