Greed indeed

Tis the season to be giving. And in the case of the Maple Leafs, greedy. As a follower of this interesting group, I'm certainly hoping it's capable of many more victories. The group itself has to not only hope for this, but believe it's possible. See, the niceties aside, the Leafs are still in a hole here. Not a hell hole, but there's plenty of work to do to move on up, and out of the deficit they've created for themselves.

Momentum can move mountains

The Leafs have points in 7 straight, they've won two in a row, and tonight the possibilities are endless. In the same vein of that brutal start, a streak of renewal may be underway. It's up the guys in the middle of it to realize the opportunity and fight tooth and nail to sustain it. They've come this far, why not emphatically slam together a 10 to 15 game point streak? What's stopping them? Heck, anything close to that would truly turn around a season most thought to be lost just a week ago. The key for the Leafs is to not be satisfied with this recent run, even if we are. Thanks to a lack of much, we've been pleased with the effort of late. We're even rationalizing how it might just keep them on the periphery of the playoff race, like "Geez, if we're hangin' around by mid March, ya never know, right?" We're so darn appreciative we've accepted this good fortune for being some kind of gift while awaiting the other shoe to eventually drop on us.

Remember the reaper

The Leafs may have shaken him off, not for good, but for now. That means it's high time for a real run at some real fun. In essence, this...the point streak, the pair of the wins...is nothing. There should be more in store, like points, victories, triumphs in regulation, in overtime, in the breakaway bonanza, any how, any way they can be obtained. The good times belong to those in the NHL who want and work for them. Sure, of late it's been the Leafs. But what about the Leafs of tomorrow, next week, and next month? If they can seize the moment, imagine the moments to come? Phil Kessel wants more of 'em. He's a puck hog, after all. Thank God, and "Gus" too. He'd never leave the net if given the choice to stay. Both are tremendous talents, gamers, positively selfish. And both have helped to strengthen the Leafs' ascent, not because they're flukey or flunkies, because they're winners. Each who appears to be just getting started, on something big, real big. Deficiencies, quirks, jerks and all, the Leafs still aren't exempt from the good times. If they really want them, all they have to do is go get them. And never mind what's been had, think of what's still out there. Tis the season alright, and indeed a need for greed.
