The Value Cup

4 years running now, the Leafs, your Leafs, our Leafs are tops...worth more to their shareholders than those of any other NHL outfit. $470 million? You could sell'em for a lot more, based not on a product of winning tradition, but a traditionally winning brand. A champion really, an icon of hockey, of holiness and of hatred. It's made the Blue and White a financial beast with the least. Hey, next time a fan of one of the other 29 gets on you, sure your team may not be better, but tell 'em at least it's bigger. So big, most likely to the benefit of whichever club they support. You'd certainly be reaching. And yeah it sounds arrogant, but if it's all you've got...go with it.

Watch out for Chicago, up like 25 percent in value. Hockey times are good again in the Windy City where a once stagnant franchise has risen from the ashes to new heights, both on and off the ice. Wonder what a winner would do to and for the Leafs empire? Either way, while the playoffs may be a long shot it appears the Buds will hit the half billion dollar plateau in 2010.

In the case of the Leafs size matters. To stay relevant, it has to.
