Got this beaut from the wires. Finally, the debate has been put to rest.
The Habs are Canada's team? One-third of Canadians think so, poll says
MONTREAL - A new survey suggests one-third of the country considers the Montreal Canadiens to be Canada's national hockey team. It suggests that when Canadians are asked which NHL franchise might be considered 'Canada's team,' the Habs are easily the most popular choice. The Ipsos-Reid poll was conducted for the Historica-Dominion Institute in celebration of the Habs' 100th anniversary this week. The Canadiens received the nod from 33 per cent of respondents. Second spot went to the Toronto Maple Leafs, at 25 per cent. All other teams - Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton - got five per cent or less. Twenty-eight per cent of respondents said none should be considered Canada's team.
Not that I care, but my take: 25 percent's pretty darn impressive. Most of the country hates Toronto and the Leafs, so the idea that one of very four people is actually brave enough to admit they bleed blue is admirable. Hey, do yourself a favour and read some of the gloating errrr hating at:
