Kovalf***

Some frenzy.

Hasn't the NHL free-agency period of 2010 just sucked? The crop class was never really great to begin with, but this lack of movement is appalling.

You can blame Ilya Kovalchuk, the Devils, the NHL, the salary cap or all four for this logjam. As soon as Kovy's on his way, other players could begin transit to new locations within hours. Until then, we wait. And face it, it's been pretty boring.

In a recent interview on AM980's The Hook, Leafs' VP of Hockey Operations, Dave Poulin said he not only expects the Kovalchuk situation to be resolved, he expects it to happen soon. And according to the first year MLSE executive, the Leafs will be active once the floodgates open. I got the sense from our conversation that team brass is planning, plotting, prepping for the possibilities. They're simply chomping at the bit right now. For his sake, ours, and the sake of trading an asset for something more useful let's hope he's both right and being real.
