No fees, no play?

According to a source working at a London High School, student fees for extra-curricular activities will be eliminated. It's a mandate apparently sent down from the Provincial government and required to be enacted immediately. At first blush no fees means all is free. But what it could really end up meaning is that any if not all programs involving participant cost will effectively end. Because at the end of the day what sport, club and/or trip doesn't require some sort of extra fee? If those funds aren't collected, where do they come from? The answer is simple. The money won't come from anywhere, and the kids will end up going nowhere. I'm told potential results from this alleged plan could be "catastrophic". Ask anyone who runs these kinds of things, including high School sports teams. They cannot operate without extra cost to the player. If voluntary revenue streams like fees and personal cost are shutdown, expect the invaluable organizations they've kept alive for so long to follow suit.
