I'm not an advocate for or against violence in hockey, but in the case of Patrick Roy, his kid Jonathan and those merry band of idiots from Quebec City, justice will never come in the form of sanctions or suspensions.
What the Ramparts deserve, especially young "Apollo" Roy there, is a little TLB. Not from mom and dad, team management or even the league itself. Oh no, what's really needed is a Tough Love Beating from someone in a uniform other than his own. Sure, it sounds vigilante. But really, how else will the kid ever learn?
And Dad? There's no hope for him. He's a reckless icon in that province who can do whatever he wants. Patrick Roy is bigger than life in Quebec, not to mention a bigger brat than his kid. Its a role he not only gets away with, but thrives on. Hey, its who he is. Its why he's won so many hockey trophies at the expense of personal and professional respect.
As for his kid? Its evident, he's a chip of the old block. And that block is what he needs knocked off.
There's still time for him to become a man, with talent, heart... and class.
Even punks have a chance.
Here's to the player who teaches Jonathan Roy a lesson. It may just set him straight.
i agree for the most part, but say he does 'learn his lesson' and takes a beating himself, then what? the player to do it to him would be nothing but a mirror image of J. Roy.
ReplyDeleteit has to stop - PERIOD. there has to be another way for these kids to learn right from wrong...you'd hope that starts at home with parenting, but teachers, coaches, camp counsellors, etc need to step up as well. P.Roy - father and coach should be the one who was punished more-so than his kid.
yes "little patrick" should've been able to make the distinction between right and wrong on his own, he sure as hell is old enough, but he didn't. makes me wonder what he would've done if Patrick Roy wasn't his coach. that to me, is another issue on it's own - i don't agree that parents should be able to coach their own children.
