Listen to "The Hook" on http://am980.ca/ tonight at 8:00.
Tiger-cats General Manager, Bob O'Billovich joins me. He's helping to re-make Hamilton's long-suffering CFL team, but what about the league itself? Can the Canadian Football League grow beyond what it's been for decades? Obie's been around for decades. Maybe he has some ideas on what can make the CFL better?

And what about Western Sports? They're a coming at us fast and furious with the big, bad football team again leading the way. Andy Watson, the man who knows just about everything if it has to do with UWO sports, will chat with me as well. I don't believe Canada's greatest sports university is receiving the type of fan support it should, from either it's students or the people of London. Perhaps school brass has a plan to change that? I'll ask Andy.
Plus, Oakridge Oaks football. The high school football season is a month away, but it's not too early to get the lowdown on some of the big HS football showdowns to come. We'll find out why Oaks' head coach, Mike Darling is extra charged up this summer.
London's newest sports talk show, "The Hook with Norman James" on http://am980.ca/ tonight at 8.
To suggest UWO is "canada's greatest sports university" is laughable. When was the last time UWO won Vanier Cup...1994? 15 years is a eternity. Last year, getting shellacked by Laval was a stern message that Western is second fiddle. Winning Yates is nice but the goal should be to win Vanier Cup.
ReplyDeleteAlso, while their other sports teams do well, I point out that in the national championships in recent years, Western...dare I say "chokes' For instance, men's basketball up one against powerful Carleton, Ravens drive the length of the court to win, hockey, getting beat by UNB.
Mr. James, I suggest you should back away from the purple kool-aid. For football in 2009, on paper, it sets up nicely for Western. OUA champ is home to Quebec champ (likely Laval). If Stangs do not win it all, I feel it is time for Greg Marshall to be fired, period.
I appreciate your passion. Of course what I say is arguable. That's the point.
ReplyDeleteBut we're talking about Western here. To suggest it's Canada's greatest sports university isn't that far fetched. One could make a pretty convincing case. One may also be offended...
Hey, the more CIS chatter, the better.
"Western is second fiddle".
ReplyDeleteUmm, maybe you missed the other games in the CIS, but everyone is playing second fiddle to the semi-pro team fielded by Laval.
And I think you need to look at the entirety of the program, the countless trophies and championships, and take a second look at why Western can be considered Canada's greatest sports university.
Well, we have hit the bottom of the barrel, any thoughts from you?
