Once Michael Faulds is done leading the Western Mustangs to the Vanier Cup, how about the guy gets a tryout, or something, with a Canadian Football League team? He's not from the States so it's a long shot.. but he deserves a shot, none the less. Mike expressed his desire to be given at least a sniff from one of the "elite 8" when his CIS playing days are over. And the clock is ticking.
We replayed part of Friday's Faulds interview on Saturday. It was a perfect lead-in to our segment with cisblog.ca's Andrew Bucholtz.
Andrew thinks Faulds' Mustangs is the team to beat in 2009.. and believes the only team capable of doing that resides where he's currently being edgeamacated, Kingston. Yes, according to Andrew, Danny Brannagan and the Gaels will upset Faulds and the number one ranked Stangs later this fall. Really? Hmmm....? Well, guess we've gotta take the guy's word for it. He follows CIS Football closely and wisely... and of course he wouldn't have been on the show if we didn't respect his opinion. It's great to connect with people like Andrew who eat, sleep and breathe university sports. That's Canadian university sports, Thank you very much.
I think Western gets out of Ottawa tomorrow with a 15 point win. After that, we'll see? As Michael Faulds said on Friday's show: 'one game at a time'.
Also joining us on "The Hook with Norman James", Knights legendary trainer, Don Brankley. Andrew called in from BC, Branks was in Muskoka during our discussion. He says it was an absolute pleasure to return to action for Eurocan Cup, but that's it. I wondered if he felt he made a mistake retiring from the game he loves so much? Some people do. They realize the relaxing life isn't for them. Don's doesn't believe so. He's happy in retirement, but equally happy when answering the call to return for special events. And especially happy if he gets a chance to work with some of the kids who went from boys to men to pros on his watch.
Oh, Branks also says any extra pressure on the junior hockey player of today comes from mom and dad first. As if there isn't enough weight on the shoulders of these kids?
So.. uh... that's 12... uh... shows down for "The... uh... Hook with Norman James".
Y'all come back now, ya hear!! Listen at http://am980.ca/ Friday at 8:00pm
