Nazem Kadri on "The Hook" this Friday

He's heartbroken, but ready to re-build with his old Knights' crew. Nazem lays it out for us.

Mike (Mike in Buffalo) Augello will also be aboard to talk Leafs, plus what's expected of John Tavares on the Island with blog reporter, Mike Meyers.

AND if you listen you can win tickets to Western's homecoming game vs. Mac on Saturday.

That's plenty of notice. So in the words of my old landlord, Igor: 'be prepared'.

JUSTIN DUNKED

Oh, on Justin Dunk... can't blame the guy for being so fired up on Saturday. "Fuck Western", he told a national audience on The Score after scoring his 3rd TD against those lousy guys in Purple and White. He said it because like many involved in Canadian university football, he hates anything to do with Western. And it's clearly something he would've felt less apologetic about had he been able to lead his crew to that upset win we all thought was coming. Failing and not prevailing almost certainly did damage to Dunk's already fragile ego. Too bad, too. Dunk's an amazing talent who shouldn't feel ashamed about or secondary to anything or anyone. While I congratulate U of G for policing itself, I'm not sure it's going to like facing Waterloo without it's star QB. Dunk was suspended one game by the University BTW, and at a crappy time. The Warriors just bombed the Lancers and are now positioning themselves to upset the Gryph's, an easier task with number 12 watching instead of playing. Guelph's 2-and-2 and will struggle to make the playoffs.

  1. After reading a column about the Justin Dunk F-bomb fallout I decided to put together a little piece that assesses and critiques that controversy. As I become older I find that I’m less willing to demand blood when people make small mistakes or errors in judgment. Instead, for whatever reason, I chalk up these little lapses in conduct to the doctrine of boys-being-boys. Life was so much easier, and better, when we gave people the benefit of the doubt and swept little things like this under the carpet.

If anyone thinks for one moment that the AD at Guelph is teaching Justin Dunk a lesson (in suspending him one game for his telecast F-bomb, directed at Western) that will reverberate in his life, both in and beyond the game, then I've got a sweet little deal with a Nigerian bank that I would like to share with you.

Everyone is hardwired to behave a certain way and emotion brings each of us closer to who we really are. Dunk, the very definition of the word 'twitch,' is simply a very tightly wound individual who becomes even more so during the pitch of the contest. That hardly makes him a bad person; it simply makes his human.

When you consider all the good attention he's brought to the University of Guelph (Also known as Last Chance-U, so they do need that attention.) it’s pretty hard to justify such a hard sentence. Dunk had three regular season games left in his university career. After that, depending on whether Guelph makes it to the playoffs (remember, they are only 2-2), there's a very real probability that he may never play the game again, certainly not at the quarterback position. I'm just not comfortable with taking one of those last moments of glory from the kid.

I can appreciate that student athletes have to represent the ideal of their institution. However, is one four letter word, which was so distorted and inaudible that I didn't even know what had been said until reading these blogs, worth all this posturing and grandstanding? If you caught the game on The Score or in the stands then you know that Dunk left it all on the field. Is one mistake worth ignoring all that he did? Considering that all the did was utter a curse, one we all learn in grade two or three, I don't think so. In fact, I don't just 'think' that I know so, I know this punishment is wrong and so do you. At some point common sense has to factor into these types of moralistic debates. The University of Guelph just let this opporunity slip by them.

Shame on U of G. They have let their fear of condemnation lead them to sacrifice one of their champions.

  2. PC, man... PC. Poor JD. I love his passion. We had him on the radio show on Friday. Great guy. Great player. Got fired up. Got suspended. Wish we could see him in the CFL.
