How do you admonish a group that put together an effort worthy of applause? Well, it goes something like this...
3 goals on 61 shots?
Credit "Rolo" for his herculean performance, but 58 saves? What? Only against the Maple Leafs. The pace and passion they give off isn't bad, it's the put-away, or lack there of that's killing this team...quickly. Not only are they 10 points out of a playoff position, but seemingly 10 years from scoring any sort of pivotal, season defining or changing goal. For as exciting as a 61 shot affair can be, I'd say it's more like excruciating for most in Leafsnation who leave with broken hearts, and sore asses from sitting on the edge of their seats for so long. Yes, there can be pleasure in pain, but not these days. Not for this team. Not when crossing the finish line hurts worse than the gruelling process it took to get there. How much more of this are we supposed to go through?
What about them, the players?
There's got to be a better concoction out there, something different, more effective. All Monday night's result does is reaffirm the obvious. Even with splashes of goodness this thing is still pretty rotten, and long overdue to be mixed up and tried again.
Come back for my Leafs' top 10 games (post-lockout tomorrow)
I wait with bated breath to actually see if a trade goes down before the holidays. The front runner seems to be Ian White, being the only consistent player and all. At this rate we DO have time to wait for Gunnarsson to mature, so go ahead, trade White and a prospect for a pick and a basket of pucks. What can it hurt, Burkie?
ReplyDeleteI'm working on an interview with White as we speak. I'm going to ask him about any trade possibilites..
